The family owned and operated Fowlds Laundry closed its doors on June 30, 2022 after half a decade of service to the Lake Stevens community. In an email from Jenniffer, the daughter of Stan & Caren Fowlds, we get a brief history and 'thank you' from the family to the community:
"It all began, years ago, with a man, in a small town.
With an idea of starting a laundromat and dry cleaner business.
Fowlds Dry Cleaners & Laundromat was and has been a
local landmark for many decades in Frontier Village. This year celebrates 50
years in business.
My parents, Stan & Caren (Chapman) Fowlds both worked
tirelessly over the years to make this a successful business. I think they
achieved that. Employees became family over the years. Those relationships are
and will always be cherished on so many levels. Many laughs and tears with the ups and downs.
Stan was always working, 7 days a week he would be there.
He enjoyed working, talking with
customers, making new friends.
It was an amazing place that my parents created. I will
always be so very proud of their hard work and achievements. They have shown me
that you can do something in your life if you try, work hard, believe in
yourself and never give up.
At times, for me, I wish we could go back to the small business, town, where
everyone knew each other and would wave howdy. It all just seemed simple then.
It was a great feeling back in those days, I’m sure some of you know what I am talking about.
Stan and Caren both grew up in Lake Stevens. Little fun
fact, 3 generations have graduated from Lake Stevens so far. My son graduated in 2021 and my youngest
daughter will become a Viking this school year. Talk about bleeding purple and
gold. Go Vikings!
With all the growth and change that has happened in this little town, it has now become so much larger in size and people. It has brought so much to this once sleepy vacation town. As things grow and change time continues. This community has allowed Fowlds Dry Cleaners to be a successful part of this city’s history. From being a main dry-cleaning facility and laundromat to having multiple pick up and drop off locations, from Lake Stevens, Marysville and Granite Falls throughout the years.
Now it is time to hang the hat up on this adventure and turn
the page to the next chapter.
Thank you for all you have done to support the Fowlds family business. The love
and support you have shown has been truly incredible.
Retirement will be different for dad; he deserves a break. His health is important and it’s about time to kick back and relax a little bit. Be sure to wave hello to Stan & Caren if you see them in the gold Chevrolet truck around town. You can’t miss it.
Thank you again for the memories 1972-2022. The end to an
era.
